“Your Children Have Magnificent Heads”

OF HAIR? MAGNIFICENT HEADS OF HAIR?! RIGHT?!!!!! THESE BOYS HAVE GREAT HAIR! Nope. Not.  Even.  Close. “So Mom, these kids have ginormous heads.  How did that work out for you?  Ouch.” Said the volunteer at the Patterson Park Pagoda. Is this even happening?   What?   Hold up. You’ve seen my children and all you can mention is that they

The Learning Party

So a few weeks ago, one of the moms in our playgroup (yes, I’m typing that without irony, sarcasm, or bitterness – they’re cool), sent an email that one of the local schools was offering a once-weekly “Learning Party.” They had me at party. Parties are all cupcakes and booze and balloons and flowers. I really wanted the learning party.

Hell On Earth AKA Pre-K Day at the Nature Center

It’s Monday. . .again.  Just a few more Monday’s and hopefully I’ll be able to evict the fast growing little parasite who is taking up a lot of premium real estate in my body. . .make room for some good fall beer. . .Or to breathe. . .Both seem vital to me currently. Anyway, on Mondays the local nature center

Our Biggest Parenting Fail Yet

We’re getting out-of-town for a few days and returning to nearly a week’s worth of fun stuff for Mac’s birthday.  So I’m in laundry, cleaning, list-making hell. But last early last evening, I felt like I had things kinda’ sorta’ under control.  And I didn’t feel exhausted or miserably uncomfortable.  So instead of suggesting Chris take Mac to the playground

I Seemed to Have Misplaced My “Give A Damn”

So the kid stuck it to me good yesterday. He was up early in the morning.  We hit the Park and we walked a lot.  So by the time we got home, he was pretty tired and testy.  While I was getting him some lunch, he asked for “cray” and “pay-per.” I am always happy to oblige when he asks

Reluctant Mother Tries “Story” Hour

Yesterday it rained.  A Lot.  With  no let up. Anyone with children knows this is bad news.  Not being able to get outside or out of the house for a little while each day often results in meltdowns, missed naps, and property destruction (and that’s just me. . .don’t even get me started on the kid’s behavior). All morning, I

Technically, It Was Abandoned Property. The Police Said So.

Wednesday after my highly unproductive prenatal appointment, Mac and I hit the Park for our evening walk a little earlier than usual.  Chris went running and met us at the far side of the Park for the walk home. On our way into the Park, Mac and I passed a tricycle.  A small, OLD, purple tricycle.  It was sitting unattended

What Did We Do To This Poor Kid?!

Mac’s been doing something strange lately.  I have no idea if it’s “normal.”  Help a Sister out! You might recall that we are big fans of Dr. Karp’s book The Happiest Baby on the Block.  We pretty much followed his “5S” method to the letter when Mac was an infant.  And it worked remarkably well for us. My Husband especially

Shut Up Already Sunday!

I can’t describe to you the ways the Eastern Shore makes my heart sing. I LOVE Baltimore.  I love everything about Maryland actually. . .but if we’re being honest, lately, I feel most inspired, awake and alive, once we get to the other side of the Bridge. . .
